UK Foreign Ministry: We have faith in Lebanese politicians

British Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Barry Marston welcomed the visit of Lebanese PM Najib Mikati to the UK at this critical juncture for the Middle East, stressing his country’s support for a prosperous thriving Lebanon.

Marston added that Lebanon and the UK are bound together with strong ties and that the UK endorses projects to instill stability and protect sovereignty in Lebanon. “The UK is keen on protecting the Lebanese banking sector, supporting pro-investment reforms and increasing support for the Lebanese Armed Forces”, Marston said.

Speaking on the Special Tribunal for Lebanon and other challenges lurking in Lebanon’s horizons, Marston said: “We are certain that Lebanese politicians will take the appropriate decisions that will benefit Lebanon and uphold its international commitments. In turn, the Lebanese can rest assure that the UK will support them in these fields.”

Marston said that the British Premier David Cameron and his Lebanese Counterpart PM Mikati will discuss “in any case the dreadful situation in Syria and the need for the Syrian regime to end civilians’ bloodshed.”
