Citizen Ahmad Abdul Karim denies via LBCI his involvement in the Hermel blast
Citizen Ahmad Fawzi Abdul Karim denied on Monday his involvement in the Hermel explosion and said that a photo depicting his military identification paper was circulated without his knowledge.

“I have no links to the Hermel blast. It must have been some sort of a joke, executed without my prior knowledge,” Ahmad said via a live appearance with LBCI's Nharkom Said TV Show.

For her part, Ahmad's mother, Leila Osman Shawk, also told LBCI that her son was in good condition, noting that he currently is at a shop he owns in Tripoli's Bab al-Tabbaneh.

Sources told LBCI earlier that the security forces had suspected that the Hermel suicide bomber was from the Abdul Karim family who hails from the town of Fnaideq, Akkar, noting that the Lebanese Army Intelligence was investigating whether the suspect was dead or alive.

On Saturday the 1st of February, an explosion took place at a gas station near al-Mabarrat school at the entrance of the northeastern Lebanese town of Hermel.

The state run National News Agency cited witnesses who said the explosion was carried out by a suicide bomber who entered the gas station, leaving a metre-deep hole in the ground and setting the station and nearby cars on fire.

Caretaker Minister of Health Ali Hassan Khalil said that 3 persons were killed and 28 others were injured in the explosion.

Al-Nusra Front in Lebanon claimed responsibility for the attack. This is the second attack of its kind on the town, also known for its strong backing of Hezbollah.

The first attack took place on Thursday January 16 when a car bomb exploded near a local government building in the Lebanese town of Hermel, killing at least three.

Security sources told LBCI that a suicide bomber had detonated the explosive laden vehicle, a black Kia SUV parked on the side of the road near a bank.
