He noted that the Lebanese people must not expect the election of a new president, nor the approval of the pay scale, should the political parties continue their current behavior. For his part MP George Adwan called for limiting the legislative work to exceptional cases, holding the deputies who boycotted the electoral parliamentary sessions responsible for the presidential vacuum. Adwan noted that the sub-committee tasked with discussing the pay scale held a meeting on Monday evening and will keep on holding talks to solve the issue. “When the political forces agree on one formula for the pay scale, we can consider the case as a necessary exceptional matter aiming at guaranteeing stability; therefore it can be passed by the Parliament,” he explained. In turn, MP Ibrahim Kanaan said that the pay scale draft law has been referred to the parliament’s general authority, but the parliamentary blocs still have to finalize the issue of the teachers ranks, military personnel and administrative employees. “The employees must be granted their rights and within the capabilities of the state,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Association of Public Administrations’ Employees staged a sit-in outside the building of the Education Ministry in order to call on the deputies to attend the session and pass the pay scale draft law.
