Following the meeting, TV stations and cable providers agreed on the following:
-Restoring the broadcast of all channels.
-Freezing all legal proceedings.
-Halting all media campaigns from both parties.
-Specifying a period of 4 weeks to agree on the price of the package and announce the number of subscribers.
-Transforming all cables to digital within a period of 6 months, effective as of May 5th.
-Discussing all conflicting matters during a meeting scheduled for May 7th.
Over the weekend, the rift between cable providers and local TV stations widened, as some cable providers stopped running two local channels, namely LBCI and al-Jadeed. On behalf of the coalition of eight Lebanese TV channels, Lawyer Wassim Mansouri said during a news conference Sunday (May 03) that cable providers would “bear legal responsibility” for this move. Last March, the eight Lebanese stations began to push for a fee on cable providers in exchange for access to their content. The eight stations that back this move are: Tele Liban, LBCI, MTV, Future TV, Al-Manar, NBN, OTV and Al-Jadeed. Cable providers stopped broadcasting LBCI on Friday (May 01), and Al-Jadeed’s feed was dropped Sunday (May 03).
