REPORT: Cabinet cancels results of waste management bids amid withdrawal of ministers
An extraordinary cabinet session convened on Tuesday at the Grand Serail under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Tammam Salam.
 
Following the session, Information Minister Ramzi Jreij said that Salam stressed the importance of maintaining the government amid the current presidential vacuum.

Jreij also noted that Salam rejected the discussion of any pending issue other than the garbage crisis, stressing that cabinet is not “the suitable place to tackle disputes.”
 
He also noted that the ministers canceled the results of the waste management tenders and returned the file to the concerned ministerial committee, amid the withdrawal of Hezbollah, Change and Reform bloc and Tachnag ministers from the session.

On another note, Jreij declared that 100 million dollars will be allocated to Akkar district to set up developmental projects.

At the onset of the session, PM Salam ordered the removal of a concrete wall that was set-up on Monday to separate the Grand Serail from Riad al-Soleh Square in the wake of violent protests that erupted on Sunday.
