Future bloc says campaign waged by Hezbollah paved way for Sunday’s blast
The Future bloc condemned on Tuesday the “terrorist bomb that targeted the headquarters of the Blom Bank in Beirut’s Verdun on Sunday.”
“This terrorist crime is one of the biggest and most dangerous terrorist crimes that targeted Lebanon in a long period and it is aimed at threatening the Lebanese banking sector and thus the national and social security of the country and the Lebanese people,” the bloc said in a statement after its weekly meeting.
The bloc stressed that “the media and political campaign that Hezbollah waged and is still waging against the Central Bank and the Lebanese banking sector paved the way for this terrorist crime.”
On another note, the bloc reiterated that the sole key for the country’s crisis is to elect a new president.
Lebanon has been plunged into a presidential vacuum since the mandate of president Michel Sleiman ended in May 2014 without the election of a successor.
Deep disputes between rival politic parties have thwarted the election sessions.
The explosion outside the Verdun headquarters of BLOM Bank, injured two people and caused material damage to the building's glass facade and the parked cars.
