REPORT: Judge Hammoud reveals details about Asala’s short arrest
State Prosecutor Samir Hammoud said on Tuesday that Syrian singer Asala Nasri received the “same treatment” as any other person held on suspicion of drug abuse, after she was shortly arrested on Sunday at Beirut International Airport.

Hammoud noted that he had recently verbally instructed the prosecutors not to arrest drug abusers but to “refer them to institutions that treat them while undergoing periodic tests.”

“In line with this order, Asala underwent a drug abuse test and she will be periodically undergoing the same test when she returns to Lebanon,” Hammoud added.

He concluded by saying that “investigations in this case are done confidentially.”

On Sunday, Internal Security Forces inspection officers found two grams of cocaine in Asala’s bag.

After being “tested positive for her drug abuse, Judge Claude Karam decided to release Asala on condition that she would undergo another drug test.
