LAF Captain, 1 soldier killed in the wake of violent confrontations in Lebanon's Arsal

Cautious calm has returned to the Bekaa region of Arsal following violent clashes which left several people dead and others wounded, but not at a cheap price.

Lebanese Armed Forces Captain, 1 other soldier, and a wanted person, identified as Khaled Ahmad Hmeid, were killed in the violence.

In the details, violence erupted when a Lebanese Army unit entered to the Arsal area to arrest Khaled Ahmad Hmeid who is wanted on 2 arrest warrants.

While pursuing the wanted person who fled to the mountainous area of Hermel, the LAF were ambushed and various shots were fired, killing Khalid Hmeid and several soldiers.

For his part the Arsal Mayor Ali Houjairi told LBCI that the LAF patrol came without any previous coordination with the town's officials and added that its members were dressed in civilian attire. Houjairi stressed that Hmeid was not a terrorist.

Units from the Information Branch and the ISF as well as the LAF headed to the Arsal area to maintain security.

Subsequently, the Arsal residents buried Khaled Ahmad Hmeid known as Adam Chahine and also referred to as "Electro".
