Bishop Matar meets President Sleiman, MPs Siniora and Abou Faour

Maronite Bishop of Beirut Boulos Matar met on Tuesday with President Michel Sleiman, Future bloc leader Fouad Siniora and Caretaker Minister of Social Affairs Wael Abou Faour.

Following the meeting with MP Siniora, Bishop Matar said that discussions tackled the electoral issue, mainly the electoral draft law.

A presidential statement was issued following the meeting between Bishop Matar and President Sleiman in which it said that Bishop Matar briefed President Sleiman about his latest meetings with Lebanese leaders over the electoral law.

The bishop later met Caretaker Minister of Social Affairs Wael Abou Faour in the presence of MP Akram Chehayeb.

On Friday he also held talks with Speaker Nabih Berri and National Struggle Front leader MP Walid Jumblatt.

Lebanon's rival parties March 8 and March 14 alliances are sharply divided over the new electoral law that would govern the upcoming parliamentary elections set for next June.

The failure to devise an electoral law will lead to the postponement of the elections and the possible extension of the current parliaments mandate.
