Rai calls for the formation of a neutral cabinet

   
Maronite Patriarch Cardinal Beshara Boutros Rai said on Tuesday that the current situation in Lebanon must end, noting that the dispute between the March 14 and the March 8 camp has started dismantling Lebanon and its institutions.          

Commenting on the cabinet's formation, Rai said while leaving Rome: “We have experienced a cabinet of national unity, and if we formed another unity cabinet under the current circumstances, it will definitely turn into barricades.” 

However, he called for the formation of a neutral cabinet that does not include components of either March 14 or March 8, capable of handling the country's internal affairs “through reaching reconciliation between the rival camps as a first step,” he noted.              

“We do not condemn anyone, but we call on them to assume their responsibilities and to commit to the national and constitutional standards which are the fundamentals of political practice,” Rai said, pointing out that the Lebanese politicians neither are loyal to the constitutional principle nor are they serving the interests of the people.
