REPORT: Sleiman says the land, the people, and common values form the permanent equation for the nation

President Michel Sleiman said on Friday that the land, the people and the common values form the golden and permanent equation for the nation, stressing that maintaining and protecting the land is the duty of every Lebanese citizen.

In a speech he delivered during the inauguration of the conference “My land, a promising future,” at the Holy Spirit University of Kaslik, Sleiman called on the parties not to remain attached to “rigid equations” that hinder the issuance of the ministerial statement, noting that the Baabda Declaration has become like a national charter.  

On another note, Sleiman called for finding solution for issue of the Syrian refugees, who pose a threat to the land, to the demographic balance and the integration of the population, stressing his rejection to the resettlement of the Palestinian refugees in Lebanon.    

“The Foreign Minister’s duty is to seek registration of a greater number of Lebanese expatriates for the upcoming parliamentary elections,” he said, adding that it is unacceptable that only 10 thousand Lebanese nationals living abroad registered their names to participate in the elections.  

The president also urged the new cabinet to discuss and pass new electoral law.
