Adolf Hitler spied on Irish Olympic athletes to discover their secrets for success

A British expert revealed on Tuesday that Adolf Hitler had sent camera crews to spy on Irish Olympic athletes in a bid to find out why they were so successful.

The expert added that an appeal also went out to locate the rare footage of Irish hammer throwers ordered by the German dictator.

The grainy film was shot ahead of the 1936 Olympic games in Berlin.

The Louth museum in eastern England is preparing to hold an exhibition on Irish involvement with the Olympics to coincide with the run-in to London 2012.
