Dib calls for swift demolishment of uninhabitable buildings in Lebanon
MP Hikmat Dib commented on Monday on the previous night's Achrafieh collapse, stressing the importance of carrying out a comprehensive survey of the condition of Lebanon’s old buildings.

“Some buildings exist since the 40s and are uninhabitable; they should be demolished immediately,” he elaborated.
Dib told LBCI that the Lebanese law places the responsibility for any building-related incident on the engineer in charge of the building.

Dib also touched on the events in Syria, hoping that the violence-hit country will overcome its crisis.

He added that the remarks put forth by U.N. Chief Ban Ki-Moon from Lebanon regarding the situation in Syria are of a political nature and target the Syrian regime.

A six-story residential building collapsed on Sunday in Fassouh, Achrafieh. Dozens of injuries and killed have been reported.
