Ashton to visit Israel and Palestinian territories Tuesday

The bureau of the European Union’s Foreign Minister Catherine Ashton announced that she will be heading to Israel and the Palestinian territories Tuesday.

One of Ashton’s spokespersons told AFP that the goal behind the visit is to convince both sides to go back to negotiations.

This visit comes amid tense relations between the EU and Israel. Many European diplomats in Israel recently criticized the policy of the Jewish state, enraging the Israeli authorities.
