Ghosn receives new UNIFIL commander

Minister of National Defense, Fayez Ghosn, on Friday met with newly appointed UNIFIL commander, General Paolo Serra of Italy, and outgoing General Alberto Asarta of Spain.

Ghosn reportedly commended the role assumed by Asarta during his seniority as UNIFIL Chief in office, and the efforts he exerted to bolster cooperation with the Lebanese Army to maintain peace in borderline regions.

Asarta, in turn, hailed the support the UNIFIL had received in Lebanon and the cordiality of the Lebanese people.

He highlighted the ongoing cooperation between the UNIFIL and the Lebanese Army as well as the well-entrenched relations between southerners and peacekeepers.
