Gemayel: Resistance not working to reinforce state is illegitimate

The Head of the Kataeb Party MP Amin Gemayel said on Friday that the Kataeb Party is committed to human rights cause in the Arab World far from political gains.

During the conference for democratic and centralist parties, Gemayel urged new governments to assume their responsibilities, respect their slogans and meet people’s needs.

Speaking on the resistance, Gemayel stressed that a resistance that does not work towards reinforcing state institutions is illegitimate.

“Extremism led to individual and collective sufferings, thus we should fight it”, Gemayel said.

The former president underscored the importance of the principle of equality, adding that it does not cancel out concensus.

“Democracy is embodied in a constitutional regime that is in line with political activities”, Gemayel said.

Gemayel added that the current events sweeping the region are giving renewed momentum to the Arab League.
