Lebanon’s General Security says FSA colonel Rifai still in custody
“The General Security is not involved in the swap deal that was brokered between Hezbollah and the Free Syrian Army (FSA),” the General Directorate of General Security said on Tuesday.

The Directorate also stressed that dissident colonel Abdullah Hussein al-Rifai is still in custody after he was referred to the General Security by the concerned judicial authorities.

It added that his fate is linked to the negotiations aiming to secure the release of the kidnapped Lebanese troops.

On November 18, the state-run National News Agency reported that State Commissioner to the Military Court Judge Saqr Saqr handed over the head of the Free Syrian Army command council, Colonel Abdullah Rifai, to Lebanon's General Security without issuing any charges against him.

The agency added that Rifai was released from custody and will be handed to the General Security after his attorney Tareq Shandab submitted a request in this regard.

"Rifai was released on condition he does not leave the country," the agency noted.

A week earlier, the Lebanese army apprehended Rifai who was attempting to enter Syria using fake documents.

The FSA is the Western-backed group fighting to topple Syrian President Bashar Assad.
