Sahnawi: Citizens should be ready to demonstrate any moment

Telecommunication Minister Nicolas Sahnawi told "Al Mada" radio that the Lebanese citizens should be prepared to demonstrate at any time in order to press authorities to implement the long awaited electricity plan.            

He added that yesterday's Cabinet session was calm unlike what was claimed by the media reports.            

"Some steps were adopted by the Cabinet concerning the electricity plan such as leasing power generating boats. But these intentions should be translated into actions," the minister said.        

Sahnawi also commented on the renewing contracts with cellular operators.          

"We have changed the concept of contracts. The operator must meet the strategic goals in order to achieve profits. Among these steps the operator must fulfill is to improve the service and increase the number of stations."          

He voiced his opposition to the idea of annual contract because the operator will strive to make a quick profit and this is against the government's interest.         

The minister promised to provide a comprehensive study in three months detailing the best way to improve the telecom sector in Lebanon.
