Hikers fall in icy waters of Kfardebian, one saved
A Sunday hike in Kfardebian turned into a tragedy for two youths who attempted to cross over an icy pond but fell through the cracks. One of the young hikers was saved but the other was lost to the icy waters.

Hiba Ali Rmeid (17 years old), her brother Ahmad, and a group of their friends were enjoying the snowy mountains of Lebanon between Faraya and Kfardebian when the siblings decided to cross over a frozen pond. The ice could not sustain their weight and cracked underneath their feet as they both fell into the dangerously cold waters.

Civil defense teams struggled to save the victims, but were only able to locate and retrieve Ahmed. He was rushed to Saint George Hospital in neighboring Ajaltoun.

The head of maritime rescue team continued his attempts to rescue Hiba, with hypothermia as her main enemy.
