“The Artist” sweeps the Oscars
The French romantic motion picture “The Artist” was awarded five Oscars for its black-and-white tribute to the silent-picture era. It was judged the best picture as it tells the story of a silent-movie star whose fame dimmed in the talkies. The film also won Michel Hazanavicius the award for best director.

Actor Jean Dujardin,39, made French history for being the first French actor to win the best actor award for his role in “The Artist”. It also won best soundtrack and costumes.
Meryl Streep had her share in the Academy Awards when she won her third golden statue for best actress with her role in “The Iron Lady”. 82-year-old Canadian actor Christopher Plummer became the oldest actor in Oscar history to win best supporting actor, while Octavia Spencer won best actress in a supporting role.

“Rango” won the Oscar for best animated feature film while “The Separation” won best foreign film, making it the first Iranian motion picture to pick up this award. Pakistan also entered the books of Oscar history with Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy’s documentary that tells the tale of women who were attacked with acid. Martin Scorsese’s Paris adventure “Hugo” also won five Oscars.

Adding a touch of Lebanese flair to the affair, Lebanese designer Elie Saab dressed both Milla Jovovich and Berenice Bejo, while designer Zuhair Murad wrapped Jennifer Lopez in his glamorous couture for the red carpet.
