Qabbani files law suit against Nicolas for slander

Future bloc MP Mohammad Qabbani filed a law suit against MP Nabil Nicolas for slander, on Thursday. Qabbani said that he has put this matter in the hands of the law, adding that the defendant should accept the verdict regardless of the outcome.

“I will always fight corruption fiercely and he who wishes to stand in the face of corruption will have to expect a counter-attack”, Qabbani told reports in parliament.

Qabbani stressed that he has and always will defend the constitution, laws and reforms, describing remarks of Energy Minister Gebran Bassil regarding electricity bills as misleading. “It turns out that the electricity bills [Bassil accused Qabani of not paying] belong to someone whose brother personally went to EDL a few days ago to pay them”, Qabbani said, adding that an EDL official named Elie Maalouf was the individual who provided Bassil with the misleading information.

Qabbani also said that people affiliated to Bassil have tried to exert pressure against journalists to launch a slander campaign against him using false information. “However, honorable journalists have refused to publish such information”, Qabbani said.

Qabbani added that he will not keep silent about the false claims spread by a certain MP who produced information intended to mislead the public.
