Nahhas: Parliament “master of itself”, defaulters should be held accountable
Economy Minister Nicolas Nahhas said on Wednesday that the proposal put forth by Speaker Nabih Berri regarding the extra-budgetary spending has great chances of success and could be the threshold of a clear mechanism for public accounts regulations.

Nahhas told Voice of Lebanon that the parliament is the “master of itself” and defaulters should be held accountable, calling for engaging into a “sound management of public funds.”

Commenting on the appointments issue, Nahhas hoped that a solution will be soon found to the problem since “it is time to fill vacancy in administrative posts, top posts in particular, and to activate the administrative and ministerial work.”

As for Energy Minister Gebran Bassil’s plan to import power from Iran, Nahhas confirmed that “the cabinet is the referee in this issue which will be studied during Wednesday’s session”, stressing that “it is of greater importance now to meet the technical and financial requirements.”
