Eight people were reported injured when an old building that was being renovated in Tabarja Beach Complex collapsed on Friday. Five were rushed to hospital and sources say that one whose identity remains unknown is still trapped under the rubble.

According to the information obtained, that this building was under construction for the last 35 years and was left abandoned. The left part of the 6 to 7 story-building collapsed at 10 p.m. Friday night due to rustiness and lack of maintenance.

Interior Minister Marwan Charbel inspected the site over the night and called on the concerned municipality to take all necessary measures.

The ISF had cordoned off the area and teams from the Red Cross rushed to assist the injured. The Civil Defense worked on removing the rubble to save those trapped.
