Aoun: Those who endorsed 2006 war are also endorsing war in Syria
The Head of the Change and Reform bloc MP Michel Aoun said that to truly understand the essence of March 14, it is important to grasp the factors and security situation that was prevailing when he took over power on September 23, 1988.

“The bloody events that began in 1975 caused division amongst the Lebanese”, Aoun said on the 23rd anniversary of March 14 1989 in the Antonin Institute in Baabda.

Aoun said that in 1989, he was subject to a military, political, economic and financial embargo, assuring that the army was not divided.

“I refused to interfere in 1990 when Baabda came under attack”, Aoun said “Everyone blamed us for waging a war against Syria. I did not do so but when a land is occupied, one uses what he has to free it”.

Aoun stressed that the Free Patriotic Movement will not succumb to pressure, will always speak its mind and its motives will not be dictated by external forces.

“Those who supported the 2006 war are the same ones supporting the war in Syria”, Aoun said.

Speaking on Syria, Aoun warned: “Make sure to really understand the politics of the [Muslim] Brotherhood and its slogan so you would be able to make the right choice. Let’s suppose the Syrian regime should come to an end, what will be the alternative? Our security is in question and war will eventually reach us. We do not want to blindly accept the rule of the brotherhood”.

Aoun stressed that his fight against corruption and in favor of reforms will endure, adding that reforms have become a reality today not just a motto.
