Progressive Socialist Party Leader MP Walid Jumblatt denounced Sunday the assassination of Hezbollah’s Samir Qantar in an Israeli airstrike in Syria’s Jaramana.
In a statement, Jumblatt said: “apart from the differences in the political positions regarding the Syrian crisis, we denounce the assassination of the fighter Samir Qantar in Jaramana,” noting that “the martyr Qantar dedicated his life to fight against the Israeli occupation and spent decades in prison cells without backing down on his stances and principles, then he was freed having more faith in his political orientations than ever.”
For his part, Syrian Information Minister Omran al-Zobi said that “the martyrdom of the hero Samir Qantar adds to the victorious journey of the nation against the Zionist and terrorist projects.”
However, Israeli Construction and Housing Minister Yoav Gallant told Israel Radio that Israel welcomes the killing of Lebanese Hezbollah leader Samir Qantar in an overnight strike in Syria, adding that "It is good that people like Samir Qantar will not be part of our world.”
