REPORT: Hundreds stage sit-in in solidarity with citizens of Madaya

A sit-in was staged Friday on al-Masnaa road in the Bekaa region, where protesters expressed solidarity with the people of the Syria’s Madaya, calling for lifting the siege imposed on the town.

The protesters blocked al-Masnaa road for a short period of time.

Similarly, a protest was held in Beirut's Hamra area near the Lebanese Red Cross Headquarters after Al-Jamaa al-Islamiya called on its supporters to rally against the situation in Madaya.

This as the supporters of the Progressive Socialist Party gathered before the headquarters of the UN's Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia in downtown Beirut to express frustration with the humanitarian crisis in the besieged Syrian town.

The Syrian government has agreed to allow aid convoys into the besieged town of Madaya, northwest of Damascus, and Foah and Kefraya in Aleppo, according to a UN statement issued on Thursday.

The statement calls for unimpeded humanitarian access to reach those in need.

It added that almost 42,000 people remaining in Madaya are at risk of further hunger and starvation.
