Activists call for declaring a public health emergency

“We Want Accountability” activists staged Saturday a sit-in outside the Health Ministry in Bir Hassan amid heavy security measures, protesting against the 6-month-old waste management crisis and its repercussions on the health of the citizens.

The protesters said, according to medical laboratory reports, that the trash crisis is influencing the spread of diseases that are prone to cause epidemics.

They also noted that the ratio of cancer has doubled, calling upon the Health Ministry to declare a public health emergency showing the hazards as the result of the accumulating trash.
