Introduction to the evening news 23-03-2012

The Friday of “Damascus, we are coming” proves that the military option which was earlier adopted in Baba Amr and Idlib has not yet achieved its goals and that was manifested in the opposition’s refusal to back down.

Friday’s escalation comes 48 hours before special UN-Arab envoy of Kofi Annan’s departure for Moscow where he is expected to meet on Sunday with Russian President Dmitry Medvedev and Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

On the Lebanese scene, the issue of electricity-generating ships marked the weekend after large difference in views erupted between PM Najib Mikati and Minister Bassil.

Meanwhile, the issue of food safety is still on the boil with a new chapter titled “spoiled water”. Following the frenzy over meat, fish and wheat, a new scandal surfaced after the detection of unlicensed water filling companies that do meet health conditions.
