Charbel bails out prisoners in Roumieh
Minister of Interior and Municipalities offered Saturday bail for prisoners in Roumieh penitentiary who have served their term but did not have the means to pay the fines required for their release.

Inmates who have done their time but are unable to pay the fees required of them, for expenses while in custody, continue to languish in prison. The fee set for their freedom is one day detention for every ten thousand Lebanese Pounds not paid (almost six USD).

Minister Marwan Charbel's humanitarian move is a first in this regard. He planned to have a similar approach towards other prisons spread throughout the country.

The donors who aided in this move were: Talal Maqdisi Social Development Foundation; Mawarid Bank; Amal Abou Zaid and Michel Daher.
