The government will meet on Wednesday afternoon in Baabda Palace to discuss 76 new items on its agenda.

Until this moment we didn’t find any appropriate event to start our nightly bulletin with but if we carefully look into the details of the government agendas one cannot but comment on the 76th item. The 76th item will discuss Mikati’s proposal for an alternative electricity-generating ships.

This event would be worth starting our bulletin with. Why?

The issued report will cancel the government’s decision regarding the approval of an alternative source of energy relying on electricity-generating ships.

On its 4th page the report says that those ships will fail to generate the needed power, adding that many mistakes has been done regarding the offers made to the ministry of energy as no clear criteria has been used to accept the offers.

The report finally reveals that building new power plants would cost less than the ships.

We are facing a remarkable development:  PM Najib Mikati refuses electricity-generating ships and proposes the establishment of new developed power plants.

In an interview to LBCI Minister of Energy Gebran Bassil refused to comment on Mikati statements, adding that he will hold a press conference next week to address the “right words” to Mikati.

On the other hand, the Minister of Finance Mohammad Safadi pointed out that Mikati is playing solo instead of presenting his proposal to the concerned ministers for discussion.

Until the 4th member in the committee that should discuss the proposals, the minister of environment, remains silent.    

Facing these events, what could be the outcome of the next cabinet session on Wednesday? What would the political coalitions and alliances in the government look like? What about Hezbollah and Amal ministers? What would be the stances of the ministers of the National Struggle Front?
