REPORT: Ministerial Committee discusses waste crisis

A Ministerial Committee in charge of the waste crisis held a meeting at the Grand Serail Saturday.

Following the session, Minister of Industry Hussein al-Hajj Hassan said that the sanitary landfills “are the right solution," adding that appropriate locations for these landfills must be found.

For his part, Minister of Agriculture Akram Chehayeb said that the discussions are “positive.”

Meanwhile, State Minister for Administrative Reform Nabil De Freige noted that no decision was taken yet, hailing however the “good will” of the ministers.

This as another meeting is set to take place next Monday.
Prior to the meeting, Education Minister Elias Bou Saab said that “they will return to the previous waste plan”.

“Everyone should be convinced to give the necessary funds to municipalities”, he added.

For his part, Interior Minister Nouhad Machnouk said that landfill sites will be determined before any legal assistance.
