Wahhab noted that he supports any good relations with Saudi Arabia, voicing his rejection to "Lebanon being subject to the conditions of any state that is willing to provide the country with grants."
“I will not accept Lebanon to be neither an Iranian province nor a Saudi emirate,” he added.
Wahhab pointed out that late Saudi King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz had previously donated grants to Lebanon and following his death, his children withdrew what was left of the grant.
He also criticized what he described as “begging for money”.
Wahhab concluded by calling upon former Minister Saad Hariri to take a rational stance over Saudi Arabia's decision to halt grants to the Lebanese army.
Saudi Arabia announced on Friday it is halting deals worth $4 billion aimed at equipping and supporting Lebanese security forces in retaliation for Lebanon’s siding with Iran amid the Sunni kingdom's spat with the Shiite power.
The decision came after Lebanese Foreign Minister Gebran Bassil declined to support Saudi resolutions against Iran during two meetings of Arab and Muslim foreign ministers.
