Bassil: Electricity-generating ships are partial, but essential, part of solution
Minister of Energy Gibran Bassil said that the electricity-generating ships are a partial and temporary solution for the electricity problem in Lebanon. However, they are essential in light of the prolonged deficit.

Following the Change and Reform bloc’s weekly meeting in Rabiyeh, Bassil said that the main problem is not the choice between ships and power plants, stressing that both are needed.

Bassil said that the prime minister’s report contains ten key errors. “I hope Mikati disassociates himself from these errors that show a lack of seriousness and technical sobriety, and that are contradictory to the report submitted by his advisors.

Bassil said that ratifying the electricity project at the ministerial committee is no more possible, calling for its ratification in the cabinet.

“We do not doubt the institutionalism of Mikati; he has the right to submit a report to the cabinet”, Bassil said.

Bassil stressed that Lebanon will face an electricity disaster that will worsen year after year, adding that if no consensus is reached in the cabinet, there is nothing wrong with resorting to a vote.
