REPORT: Salam: No need for government if waste crisis uresolved
Prime Minister Tammam Sallam stressed during a cabinet session that was held at the Grand Serail Thursday, that “some progress was achieved in the waste file”, and it should be a few more days until a final solution is agreed upon.

The deputy pointed out that he will not call for a cabinet session next week unless the waste crisis is solved. “There is no need for the government to stay if a solution is not found”.

Prior to the session, Minister of Agriculture Akram Chehayeb stressed the need of the ministerial committee to find a solution for the waste crisis, adding that the committee agreed on setting landfills in several regions as search is ongoing for other locations.

The Lebanese Cabinet has failed since the closure of the Naameh landfill last July to set a sustainable solution to the country’s waste crisis.

As for the GCC’s stance, Minister of Labor Sejaan Azzi said that the Gulf countries “are free in their decision,” adding that they would have resigned from the cabinet if Hezbollah was a terrorist group.

For his part, State Minister Mohammad Fneish said that GCC’s stance is a cover for the “Takfiri terrorism.”

Meanwhile, Minister of Education Elias Bou Saab said that Minister of Interior Nouhad Machnouq’s stance at the Arab Interior Ministers Conference is similar to the stance of Minister of Foreign Affairs Gebran Bassil.

“However, there was no fuss about Machnouq’s stance,” Bou Saad added.
Yesterday, Machnouq rejected the labeling of Hezbollah as a terrorist organization in the closing statement of the 33rd Arab Interior Ministers Conference held in Tunisia.
The statement came hours after the Gulf Cooperation Council had blacklisted the party.

He also added that PM Salam started to lose his patience over the waste management crisis, noting that he supports all his decisions.
