Taiwan, China should work together to 'avoid war': Opposition leader tells Xi

China and Taiwan should work together to "avoid war", the democratic island's opposition leader told Chinese President Xi Jinping on Friday as the two held a rare meeting in Beijing.

"Both sides should transcend political confrontation... and seek a systemic solution to prevent and avoid war, so that the Taiwan Strait can become a model for peaceful conflict resolution in the world," Kuomintang chairwoman Cheng Li-wun told Xi.
