The implementation of the waste plan, which was approved by the Lebanese Cabinet, started on Saturday as seven dump trucks entered the Naameh landfill for the first time since its closure eight months ago, which set off the most severe trash crisis in Lebanon's history.
Preparation works kicked off Friday at the Costa Brava seaside site in Khalde where the government has decided to set up a garbage landfill.
Last week, the Lebanese Cabinet decided to establish two landfills in Costa Brava and Bourj Hammoud and to re-open the Naameh landfill for two months only as part of a four-year plan to resolve the country’s waste management crisis despite the rejection of many residents and civil society activists.
