Head of the Progressive Socialist Party MP Walid Jumblatt warned Wednesday against the negative effects that could stem from Lebanon joining the World Trade Organization, noting that such move would increase poverty rates and destroy what is left of the Lebanese industry.
Jumblatt added, via his twitter account, that “it would be better to keep customs protections to support the Lebanese industry and agriculture.”
“But those who control the economy in this country are supporters of the law of the jungle historically,” he added.
