Judge Karam receives case of al-Amin siblings kidnapping

Mount Lebanon Prosecutor Judge Claude Karam received Monday the file of the kidnapping of al-Amin siblings to review the primary testimonies, before taking the appropriate legal decision.

Five Australians – including the children's mother – two Britons and two Lebanese have been arrested over the abduction.

Noah, 4, and Lahela, 6, were kidnapped in the southern Beirut suburb of Hadath Wednesday morning by three men in a silver Hyundai as they were waiting for their schoolbus with their grandmother and her maid. They were freed by police the next day.

The abduction is linked to a child-custody case between the Lebanese father, Ali al-Amin, and Australian mother Sally Faulkner from Brisbane.

The police confirmed Thursday that nine people with alleged connections to the kidnapping had been arrested, including an English yacht captain and Australian camera crew.

The four-member crew from Australia’s Nine Network TV station was filming a mission concerned with the recovery of the two children according to Australia’s Network News, while the Briton is suspected of attempting to take the two children to Cyprus in his yacht that was at the Movenpick Hotel in the Lebanese capital.

The mother has reportedly said that their Lebanese father took them for a holiday and then refused to return them to Australia, Fairfax Media reported.
