Charbel: Attempt to assassinate Geagea was serious, he survived miraculously

Interior Minister Marwan Charbel called on Thursday for drawing the lessons from Wednesday’s attempt to assassinate Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea in Maarab, underscoring the need to return to dialogue. The interior minister stressed to Nharkom Said TV show that the assassination attempt was a serious one, assuring that Geagea survived miraculously.

Charbel warned that the situation in the country is volatile, adding that if internal conflicts are not controlled they will exacerbate the situation.

Charbel said that the solution to such problems should be political, stressing that the answer does not lie in assassination attempts. “These attempts might create problems that will rock the country and bring back the days of civil war”, Charbel said.

Charbel added that investigations in Wednesday’s attempt to assassinate Geagea are still ongoing, wondering why waiting for the investigations’ outcome is an option while a better one, the national dialogue, is tabled.
