Voting began at 7:00 am on Sunday for the first stage of the municipal and mokhtar elections, where 476021 voters from Beirut are expected to head to 1646 polling centers, 308717 voters from Bekaa are set to head to 1158 polling stations  and 303102 voters from the Baalbek-Hermel region will vote across 1101 voting centers.

The Interior and Municipalities Ministry released a statement whereby it revealed that the a central operations room headed by Minister Nouhad al-Mashnouq at the ministry is following up on the electoral process, which has been taking place since the morning without any incident.

 

The statement also reminded the voters that the polls will close at 7 pm in the evening, adding that they will be able to cast their ballot should they present an identification card or a valid passport.

 

This as, the state-run National News Agency reported that the Interior Ministry deployed 20 thousand security members around the polling centers in Beirut and Bekaa in order to ensure the safety of the voters.
