Japan deploys defense missiles in Tokyo

Japan has deployed its land-based missile defense system to the southern prefecture of Okinawa in preparation for North Korea's plan to launch a satellite.

It said the interceptor missiles will be fired only if the North Korean missile or parts of it appear to be falling towards Japanese territory, threatening its people or their property.

North Korea has said it will launch a satellite between April 12 and 16. The planned launch, which has even drawn criticism from ally China, will mark the 100th birth anniversary of state founder Kim Il-sung.
