MP Mohammad Safadi commented on the call launched by United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki Moon on the countries hosting Syrian refugees to accommodate them, grant hem citizenships and resettle them, saying that this call represent a double risk, first by deprive the refugees of their identity and their right to return, and second by infringing the sovereignty of the hosting countries and destabilizing their social structure.
In statement, MP Safadi said that “Lebanon will only take the positions and measures that protect its unity, stability and balance.”
“Therefore, Ban Ki Moon’s invitation is categorically rejected,” he added, noting that such a call would have taken place if it weren’t for the hesitant stance of the former Lebanese cabinet.
