Health Minister Wael Abou Faour and Agriculture Minister Akram Chehayeb referred lists of agricultural pesticides globally classified as being linked to cancer disease and harmful to people’s health and the environment, to a joint committee formed by experts from both ministries.
The committee will look into the lists and will work on withdrawing the products from the Lebanese market within a two-week period.
The ministers also decided to introduce a mechanism in order to monitor the use of imported veterinary medicines and disinfectants that are sold to institutions and farms not contracted with a licensed Lebanese veterinary physician; which will make these products accessible to non-professional people and will threaten the quality of meat.
On a separate note, Abou Faour met with head of the Syndicate of Hospital Owners, Sleiman Haroun, and they discussed the situation of the hospital sector.
The minister also received the new president of the Order of Physicians Raymond Sayegh, for the first time since his election, and they discussed several matters.
