Prime Minister Tammam Salam headed a meeting with Finance Minister Ali Hassan Khalil, Central Bank Governor Riyad Salameh and Head of Banking Association Joseph Tarabieh at Beirut’s Grand Serial on Monday.
PM Salam stressed that the attack on the bank is a national security breach, as the banking sector is the fundamental "dynamo" of the national economic cycle, and a base to the state among its paralyzed parliamentary institutions.
Salam informed the attendees that he is in constant contact with the ministries and concerned security apparatuses to follow up with the investigations on the bombing, hoping for a fast revealing of the offenders.
During the meeting the partakers discussed the current banking situation in the country, and expressed their confidence in the local and regional measures taken by the central bank in order to preserve the Lebanese financial system, while enhancing its immunity and credibility.
“All parties involved must have a high degree of wisdom and responsibility, while adopting a peaceful and rational dialogue to solve this critical issue in the interest of the Lebanese people and Lebanon’s advanced position in the global financial system”, they underlined.
