Environment Minister Mohammad Mashnouq stressed Monday that “we have been facing for the last 25 years violations concerning the Litani River,” noting that the waste of factories, poultry farms, slaughterhouses, sewage, pesticides and sand quarries have turned this river into a sewer.
Mashnouq said that despite the above-mentioned fact, everyone remains silent.
Via his official Twitter account, the minister pointed out that a draft law has been prepared by the ministry to clean up the river.
“The project costs $ 880 million. It only needs to be submitted to the Parliament,” he added.
“We urged municipalities to prevent infringements and called upon the Security Forces and the judiciary to intervene in a bid to lift the political cover off violators,” Mashnouq concluded by saying.
