Mikati: We are influenced by any decision on Syria
PM Najib Mikati said on Tuesday that he has placed several priorities most importantly stability in the south, the STL and the regional as well as Syrian turmoil.

In a speech delivered in the opening general discussions session, Mikati said that the disassociation policy is a responsibility since it protects the domestic situation. “We cannot influence Syria, rather we will be affected by any decision taken on Syria”, Mikati said.

Speaking on appointments, Mikati said that the government adopted the appropriate mechanism and filled pressing vacancies, adding that more should be done.

The premier stressed that the cabinet is not a one-sided government, adding that it is doing everything in its power to settle diplomatic and judicial appointments.

Mikati said in a reassuring tone that the conflict with Cypriot will end soon, adding: “We are doing so because all signs point at the existence of oil and gas. We have established a committee governing the oil sector.”

Turning to the electricity issue, Mikati said that in the month of May the cabinet will open calls for bids.
