REPORT: Ministers agree on necessity to draft state budget

A cabinet session was held Monday at the Grand Serail under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Tammam Salam to discuss Lebanon’s financial situation in light of the current crisis.

During the meeting, the ministers discussed the report that was submitted by Finance Minister Ali Hassan Khalil and expressed their viewpoints regarding it and the proposals included in it, in particular the need to set a budget, carry out reforms in the country's electricity sector, stimulate the economy and kick off Lebanon's offshore oil and gas exploration.

The ministers agreed on the necessity to duly draft a state budget for the year 2017 within the constitutional deadlines in the upcoming sessions in a bid to address the economic and financial crisis that the country is facing.

Hassan Khalil confirmed that one of the core treatments to resolve the issue resides in approving the oil and gas file.

For his part, State Minister Mohammad Fneish stressed the need to draft a budget that includes several reforms.
