REPORT: Article 252 of Penal Code stirs controversy
In 2011, the Lebanese Parliament approved a draft-law to cancel article 562 of the penal code that calls for limited punishments for honor killings.

However, granting Manal Assi’s husband, who cruelly tortured her for 5 hours until she died of her wounds, a mitigating excuse is an indirect way to rehabilitate the “crime of honor.”

The killer was excused according to article 252 of the Lebanese Penal Code, which allows sentence mitigation for crimes committed in certain cases.
