REPORT: Geagea says only solution is to elect Aoun as president, Hariri as PM

Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea delivered on Saturday a speech during a mass commemorating the "Lebanese Resistance martyrs" in Maarab.

During the speech, Geagea saluted the martyrs, saying that “Lebanon would not have been the same today without them.”

On another note, Geagea said that “the first practical step that is needed to overcome the current crisis is to elect Free Patriotic Movement founder Michel Aoun as president and Future Movement leader Saad Hariri as Prime Minister.”

He also warned that holding parliamentary elections without electing a new president "will only complicate Lebanon’s political impasse."

Geagea concluded by vowing to launch " a merciless war" on the corruption in Lebanon.

Lebanon has been plunged into a presidential vacuum since the mandate of Michel Sleiman ended in May 2014 without the election of a successor.

The MPs of Hezbollah, Free Patriotic Movement founder Michel Aoun's Change and Reform bloc and some of their allies have been boycotting the parliament's electoral sessions, stripping them of the needed quorum.
