Contracted teachers suspend Thursday’s strike

The Association of Secondary Public School Teachers announced on Wednesday that it has decided to suspend Thursday’s strike, granting the concerned authorities a one-week-deadline to amend salaries according to the new pay scale.

Public primary schools organized a general strike today, while contracted primary education teachers staged a demonstration asking to withdraw the open contest draft law from the cabinet’s agenda.

Speaker Nabih Berri contacted PM Najib Mikati and both men agreed to withdraw the draft from the cabinet’s agenda and hold a discussion with the Minister of Education. Accordingly, contracted teachers decided to suspend the strike.
